New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced late Tuesday afternoon that Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin had resigned, effective immediately.
Benjamin started his day by turning himself into federal authorities who wanted him on election fraud charges. Just after 5:00 p.m. the governor broke her silence by issuing a statement that Benjamin had resigned and she had accepted his resignation, effective immediately.
Hochul said it was clear that Benjamin could no longer serve after being charged with trading his influence in return for campaign contributions.
