Rochester and Monroe County officials urged area residents to get their flu and COVID booster shots on Wednesday, saying they want to drive down flu rates as area hospitals are already overcrowded.
Monroe County Commissioner of Public Health Dr. Michael Mendoza says hospitals are already overcrowded with patients who need to be moved out to nursing homes, but the nursing homes lack the staff capacity to care for them. That’s leaving hospitals in a bad situation in a fall in which the flu, RSV and COVID are hitting all at once.
Mendoza says getting your flu shot will help keep that from happening.
