Governor Hochul’s order to wear masks indoors or have your vaccine cards checked at the door met with some pushback as it took effect on Monday.
Livingston County announced it would not enforce the mandate. The Board of Supervisors issued a statement saying such a mandate should come with state-led oversight and resources, not push the enforcement down to counties which aren’t equipped to do so.
Genesee and Orleans Counties also issued statements saying they don’t back the mandate. Instead they say they’ll focus their resources on vaccination and testing clinics. Steuben County officials issued a statement saying the mandate is impossible for them to enforce. They said contact tracing those exposed to COVID is taking their entire Public Health Department resources.
