Livingston Co Sheriff CarLivingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty says there’s been a 26 percent decrease in the most serious crimes in that county over the past three years, with a near 30 percent drop in property crimes.

So-called “index crimes” in Livingston County went from 1,195 in 2012 to 882 last year. Those include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and auto theft. These figures come from crime stats released by the state.

There was only one area where violent crime reports went up for Livingston County: the number of reported rapes more than doubled from 14 in 2012 to 35 last year.
