Democratic leaders of the New York State Senate and Assembly said Tuesday evening they will approve legislation to roll back the emergency powers granted to Governor Andrew Cuomo at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Senate Majority Leader Andrew Stewart-Counsins said in a statement that the legislation will keep current directives in place to preserve public health. She said everyone understands where we were back in March and where we are now.
Governor Cuomo’s emergency powers allow him to issue executive orders with the force of law during the pandemic. They were due to expire at the end of April anyway.
