The New York State Senate and Assembly have reached agreement on different versions of the bill to help out Lake Ontario property owners who’ve suffered damage from the spring flooding.
The compromise bill settles the differences between the two versions, and also adds help for people who had damage from the March windstorm not covered by insurance.
Assembly Majority Leader Jose Morelle and Senator Pam Helming say the bill includes up to $15 million for recovery grants to homeowners, $25 million for small businesses, $25 million to reimburse local governments for unbudgeted costs, $15 million to help protect against future flooding and $10 million for disaster relief from flooding in Southern Tier counties.
Grants to homeowners may be up to $60,000; to small businesses and farms up to $100,000; and for owners of multiple buildings up to $30,000 per building.
Local governments like Greece could apply for up to $1 million. The town has spent some $500,000 on dealing with the shoreline floods so far.
