They started two hours late and debated well into the night, but the New York State Legislature’s special session ended Wednesday night with an extension of the state’s eviction moratorium to January 15th, and the first progress on the state’s recreational marijuana program.
Two officials were appointed to head the program, which will develop the rules, tax policies and guidelines for recreational use of cannabis by New Yorkers. It will also license cannabis dealers.
Former Assemblywoman Tremaine Wright will head the Cannabis Control Board, and Christopher Alexander will head the Office of Cannabis Management. Both were nominated by Governor Hochul after no action on the marijuana program for five months.Â
