Two Monroe County Legislators are calling on New York State to revise its COVID-19 restrictions on visiting patients in nursing homes.

Lawmakers Paul Dondorfer and Sean Delahanty say we know more about how the virus is spread than we did in the spring when the state imposed strict rules on visitation, which they say are detrimental to the well-being of long-term care residents. In a statement, they say family visitation leads to better quality of life and greater satisfaction with life through interacting with loved ones.

Both legislators say a member of the nursing home resident’s family should be designated and frequently tested to make sure they’re COVID negative, and they should be allowed to visit their loved one under protocols set up by each nursing home.
