New York State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie say they’ve reached agreement to approve legislation and begin the process of amending the state constitution…to revoke the state pension of public officials who are convicted of felonies related to their official duties.

Several recent cases of official corruption raised additional uproar when the disgraced officials went on to collect their pensions.

Both leaders say there needs to be zero tolerance for public corruption.

Assembly. “This constitutional amendment is designed to discourage public officials from taking part in unscrupulous practices that hurt New Yorkers and tarnish the reputation of our state government.”
