Rochester will face the Mustangs on March 21 in the Windy City.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The stakes were high last Friday night for both teams as the Rochester Lancers welcomed the Detroit Waza Flo to the Dome Arena in front of a capacity crowd. The Lancers HAD to win this game in order to make the MASL 2 playoffs.
With hat tricks by both Jeremy Ortiz, and team captain Gary Boughton, and a goal by head coach Doug Miller making his Dome debut, the Lancers won 10-5 against the Waza Flo. The victory, which bumped the Lancers record to 7-4, clinched the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Division behind the Chicago Mustangs.
The Lancers will travel to Chicago on Thursday, March 21 to face the 1st place Mustangs at 7 pm in the Eastern Division Final. The game will be streamed and can be viewed on both the Chicago Mustangs or Rochester Lancers Facebook Pages. The winner of this game moves on to the League semifinals in California, to face the champs from the Mountain and Pacific Divisions.
The Lancers last home game of the season was on Saturday Night at the Ide Family Field at the Dome Arena against the Muskegon Risers. At the end of regular time, the score was 7-7 with 2 goals each by Jeremy Ortiz and Michael Cunningham, but there are no ties in indoor soccer.
Cunningham, who is from London, England, scored just 25 seconds into the Lancers first overtime of the season, as Rochester rallied for an 8-7 win over Muskegon at a sold-out Dome Arena. The Lancers then raised over $3,200 for Villa of Hope with their post-game live jersey auction.
