Rochester blows a 5-2 advantage in the 6-5 defeat to the host Swerve.
CINCINNATI, OHIO — The Cincinnati Swerve scored the tying and winning goals 30 seconds apart late in the fourth quarter to complete a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the Rochester Lancers on Saturday night.
The hosts opened the scoring with the lone goal in the first quarter, but the Lancers tallied 3 times in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into intermission.
Anthony Rozzano tied the game off an assist from August Finn. Michael Cunningham put Rochester in front as Jayme Kapinos’s goal in the final minute of the half gave the Lancers a 2-goal lead.
Austin Gerber tallied the only goal of the third quarter for a 4-1 advantage.
After a Swerve goal, Luis Hidalgo Enrique found the back of the net in the first minue of the fourth stanza, off an assist from Cunningham.
Cincinnati began its comeback 4 minutes later as the Swerve scored 4 times over 6 minutes to pull out the victory.
The Lancers continue their road trip on Sunday with a visit to Detroit to face the Waza Flo. Both teams are tied for second place in the Eastern Division with 4-3 records.
Kapinos twins join Lancers
The Lancers announced on Friday that the “Twins” have been loaned to the Lancers from the defending MASL champion Baltimore Blast.
Identical twins, Joey Kapinos, goalkeeper, and his brother Jayme Kapinos, defender, both have been loaned to join the Lancers 2019 Indoor roster.
The 29-year-old pair bring their defensive minds to the squad for the remainder of the season. The Twins played for the indoor Lancers in the 2014-15 season, and played for the NPSL outdoor Rochester Lancers the past 2 seasons.
