Jake Schindler scores 2 goals for Rochester in the 7-5 defeat.
HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL. — The Rochester Lancers lost 7-5 to Eastern Division leader Chicago Mustangs (9-1) Saturday night at the Sears Center Arena. The Lancers are in second place with a 6-4 record as the Detroit Waza Flo is a half game back at 5-4.
Jake Schindler led the Lancers with 2 goals. The Irondequoit native recorded a 5-goal weekend on the team’s trip to the Midwest following the Lancers trouncing the Muskegon Risers, 17-4, on Friday night.
Rochester opened the scoring with the only goal of the first quarter by Luis Hidalgo Enrique.
The Mustangs moved ahead with 2 goals early in the second stanza, but Schindler knotted the count 2-2.
However, the tie did not last long as the Mustangs found the back of the net 9 seconds later. Chicago scored again for a 4-2 margin at halftime.
But the Lancers battled back to draw even in the third quarter on goals by Schindler and Timothy Lazorko, off an assist from Boomer Steigleman.
Chicago regained the lead for good as the Mustangs tallied the next 3 markers.
Michael Cunningham netted a power play goal for Rochester in the fourth quarter as Jeremy Ortiz assisted on the play.
The Lancers close out their home schedule on March 8 and 9 against the Waza Flo and Risers, respectively.
