Lake Ontario rose nearly half-an-inch over the last week, but international regulators say nobody should be worrying about lakeshore flooding. The increase was deliberate. It was caused by restricting the lake flow, raising the water level to help free a tanker that ran aground on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
The levels rose dramatically in the successful attempt to refloat the grounded ship. The levels are back to falling again and water levels are expected to gradually drop through the summer.
