Greece Police have reopened Edgemere Drive along the Lake Ontario shoreline after flooding forced them to close down two sections of the road on Sunday.

They caution that debris cleanup is still underway and drivers should avoid the area or keep a close lookout for trucks and work crews if they have to go that way. There are also basement pump-outs and other cleanup jobs going on.

County officials toured the lakeshore in Greece, Parma, Hamlin and Hilton yesterday where water was coming across yards ankle-deep. Hundreds of properties are being affected.

The water is receding today as the weather pattern changes, but yesterday Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says she saw water flying over rocks and breakwaters, running through yards and garages and out to the roads. She says the county videotaped everything and has sent it to their state and federal representatives, urging them to do something to get water levels lowered on Lake Ontario.

Photos posted to Twitter showed water flowing around the Monroe County Water Authority pumping station on Edgemere drive. Properties along Edgemere were some of the worst hit.

The lake is about two feet higher than normal this time of year, due to the unusually wet spring, and according to the homeowners, Plan 2014. The international regulatory plan now allows the Great Lakes to rise and fall more normally in the wet and dry seasons.
