New York State stepped in a year-and-a-half ago when Kraft-Heinz announced it would close its cheese plant in Campbell, south of Rochester in Steuben County. The state and Kraft-Heinz began working together to find new owners for several plants that were on the chopping block.
Now Kraft-Heinz says they haven’t found a buyer for the Campbell plant, and they’ve notified more than 300 employees that severance packages will be offered on May 26th if one doesn’t step up. Phased layoffs would continue through the end of July when the plant will be closed.
