Historic Home Opener: Rochester to play its first Thursday night home game in season opener vs Toronto.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It will be a historic Opening Night on Dec. 29 at Connors & Ferris Field at the Blue Cross Arena when the Rochester Knighthawks host the Toronto Rock. The 7:30 p.m. contest marks the first time in team history that the Knighthawks will play a Thursday night home game.

“We are excited to kick off our 23rd season at home,” said Knighthawks Director of Tickets Nate Snyder. “This is a great opportunity for families and friends to come together to join in the excitement of the Knighthawks home opener during the holiday week.”

The game is part of a full week of events planned during the holidays. On Monday, Dec. 26 and Tuesday, Dec. 27, the Knighthawks will host their annual Winter Clinic at Brighton Sports Zone for boys and girls, ages 6 to 16. Rochester players will also be active in the community, delivering season tickets and making stops at local charities. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.

The league’s 31st year of professional indoor lacrosse begins with the Knighthawks hosting the Toronto Rock in an East rivalry matchup before the Colorado Mammoth visit the Buffalo Bandits on Friday, Dec. 30 to round out Week 1.

The game against the Rock marks the fourth time in team history that Rochester has played host to Toronto on Opening Night (2006, 2011 and 2015). The Knighthawks own a 19-5 record at home against the Rock. Last season, Rochester was 2-1 against one of its oldest rivals. The complete 2017 schedule will be released next week.
