The event will take place at Canandaigua Academy on July 22-23.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The National Lacrosse League’s Rochester Knighthawks announced on Thursday a partnership with Shootout for Soldiers, which is a 24-hour national fundraising lacrosse event that benefits American military veterans.

In 2017, Shootout for Soldiers expanded its schedule to include Canandaigua. The 24 one-hour games will be played at Canandaigua Academy from Saturday, July 22 to Sunday, July 23. The event, which is open to men’s and women’s teams of all ages, will keep a running score between the two teams, Stars and Stripes.

According to Knighthawks Executive Vice President of Business Operations Nate Snyder, it was an easy decision to come onboard as a sponsor, once Canandaigua was announced as a host site.

“The Rochester Knighthawks are very excited to be partnering with the local organizing committee for the Shootout for Soldiers event in Canandaigua this summer,” said Snyder. “This event allows us to support both the game of lacrosse and the military which are both incredibly important to our organization. Partnering with (Canandaigua Academy head coach) Deven York and the rest of this group of volunteers to support our veterans is a venture that the Knighthawks are truly honored to be a part of.”

Fans can pick up information about the event on Saturday at the Knighthawks Military Appreciation Night game.

“We’re very excited and grateful to work with the Knighthawks for Military Appreciation Night and I hope the lacrosse community will join us for Shootout for Soldiers Canandaigua this summer,” said Shootout for Soldiers founder and executive director Tyler Steinhardt.

Shootout for Soldiers (SFS) was started by Steinhardt and a group of Boys’ Latin students in 2012 in Baltimore, Md. Over the past five years, the event has raised over $1.5 million and expanded its footprint throughout the United States. In 2017, expansion sites Canandaigua, Hudson Valley, Philadelphia and Utah were added to the schedule.

This year’s event will include 12 cities and 288 hours of lacrosse. Shootout for Soldiers begins the weekend of May 20-21 in Atlanta and will make stops in places like Texas, Long Island, Boston, and Colorado before eventually concluding in California August 11-12.
