Rochester inks transition man Thomas Whitty and forward Curtis Knight.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Knighthawks General Manager and Vice President of Lacrosse Operations Dan Carey announced today that the team has re-signed transition man Thomas Whitty and forward Curtis Knight to one-year contracts for the 2021-22 National Lacrosse League season, pending league approval.
Selected by Rochester in the third round (35th overall) of the 2019 NLL Entry Draft, Whitty completed his rookie season with five points (1+4) while being one of only three transition players to appear in all 12 games during the Knighthawks’ inaugural campaign. He led all Knighthawks first-year players with 12 penalty minutes while also making 52 loose ball recoveries.
Prior to joining the Knighthawks, Whitty played four seasons with his hometown St. Catharines Athletics, totaling 26 points (5+21) in 74 career games. He scored a career-best four goals during the 2017 season before notching career-highs in assists (10) and points (11) in 20 games in 2019.
“Curtis is one of those players that does whatever it takes for the betterment of the team,” said Carey. “He is a smart and responsible leader that does a lot for this team. We are glad to have him in a Knighthawks jersey and are looking forward to what he is going to bring next season.”
Knight, 29, returns for his second season in Rochester after finishing second on the team in goals (15), assists (31) and points (46) while appearing in all 12 games during the Knighthawks’ inaugural campaign. He also ranked third with 114 shots while serving as an assistant captain during the 2019-20 season.
Prior to joining the Knighthawks, the Oshawa, Ontario, native spent the first six seasons of his NLL career with the Saskatchewan Rush from 2013-19, recording 307 points (122+185) and 350 loose balls in 99 games. Knight helped the Rush to six consecutive first-place finishes in the regular season while also leading the team to a pair of NLL titles over a three-year span.
In his second season with the Rush in 2014, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound forward was named team MVP after registering a career-high 72 points, including 35 goals, which ranked 10th in the NLL.
Knight was originally drafted by the Edmonton Rush in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.
