The Black Wolves hold off Rochester for a 9-8 victory as the Hawks drop their 3rd straight game.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Knighthawks lost their third consecutive game Saturday night on the Connors & Ferris Field at the Blue Cross Arena.

The Knighthawks were coming off a 17-9 loss in Toronto Friday night to the Rock.

“It was a good bounce-back night,” said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. “We played well and the opportunities were there. We played pretty even-keel, but never got that extra push there tonight. We were right there with loose balls and faceoffs and we were better than last night.”

The New England Black Wolves grabbed a 7-6 lead in the third quarter, then held on for a 9-8 victory.

Though the Knighthawks fired 56 shots on NE goalie Aaron Bold, he made 48 saves to secure the win.

Cody Jamieson paced the Rochester attack with 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points.

Jamieson brought the Knighthawks to within one goal when he converted a penalty shot.

“You don’t really expect to (be the one to) go (for the shot), but you hope you’re the one,” Jamieson said. “You’re just looking at the goalie one-on-one and thinking ‘what is he thinking?’ It’s just a chess match. I was watching him and I had a plan. I just went for it.”

The opportunity came when the Wolves had an extra man on the floor in the final 2 minutes of the fourth quarter, which is an automatic penalty shot.

Joe Resetarits and Dan Dawson also netted 2 goals apiece as Austin Shanks and Kyle Jackson accounted for the other 2 goals.

The Hawks began the season on a record offensive pace scoring 21 and 17 goals in their first two games of the season.

“I think the first couple games everybody was just shooting and scoring,” Jamieson said. “There was no adversity or hitting pipes or frustration. It’s just a matter of calming down and settling down and getting that confidence back.”

Resetarits added, “We know what we’ve got to do to be successful. We’re getting our chances. Everybody is. It just comes down to getting into a rhythm and putting them in.”

The Knighthawks won 16 of 22 faceoffs, with Jake Withers winning 12 of 14.

“Jake has been really good,” said Hasen. “One good thing we have going there is that Dylan Evans is also doing well. As a group, they’re getting the job done for us.”

The Knighthawks and Black Wolves resume action next Sunday afternoon in Connecticut.

“It’s a long season. Highs and lows are going to happen, but it’s a big game next week and we’ve got to put the effort in this week. We’ve got to be ready to play and make those adjustments for next week.”
