The programs are free to the schools and will be conducted by two Rochester players.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — During the 2017-18 season, the Rochester Knighthawks are offering three FREE school programs: Healthy Hawks, Anti-Bullying, and Lacrosse 101. These programs are centered on community outreach with Knighthawks players Brad Gillies and Luke Laszkiewicz conducting presentations that include great student-player interaction.
“It’s great to give back to our community any chance we get,” said Gillies. “Whether it’s showing a kid lacrosse for the first time or making a difference with our Anti-Bullying and Healthy Hawks programs, it is always something I love doing.”
Healthy Hawks, which is sponsored by Power Train, educates students on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The program includes a presentation by a Knighthawks player, along with a question and answer session. Each student will also receive a booklet containing healthy facts, recipes, and a voucher good for a Knighthawks 2017-18 home game.
The Knighthawks Anti-Bullying program, We Got Your Back, teaches kids how to identify types of bullying, how to handle bullying situations, and where to go for help. It is estimated that about 30 percent of students in sixth through 10th grade in the United States are involved in bullying on a regular basis. As part of the program, which is sponsored by Diamond Packaging and Wellington Steele & Associates, each child will receive an anti-bullying booklet which includes a voucher for a free ticket.
Lacrosse 101, presented by Thaney & Associates, brings the sport of lacrosse into your school. As part of the program, members of the Knighthawks will arrive with sticks, nets and balls. Each session includes fun activities like relay races and shooting contests. Every child also will leave with a ticket voucher for a 2017-18 home game. Over the past five seasons, the Knighthawks have talked to over 30,000 students about staying active, playing lacrosse and eliminating bullying.
