Knighthawks place Joe Walters on Hold Out list.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Knighthawks are pleased to announce that they have shattered their Movember fundraising goal of $2,000 by raising $4,100 for the Gilda’s Prostate Cancer Support Group. The Knighthawks will present a check to Gilda’s Club Rochester prior to Opening Night on Thursday, Dec. 29 against the Toronto Rock.

“The Knighthawks have once again shown that they are a great team, on AND off of the turf,” said Gilda’s Club Rochester CEO Bob Russell. “The commitment of the players and the organization to raise awareness and funds to support Gilda’s Club Rochester and men’s prostate cancer support has been incredible. We couldn’t be prouder of our relationship with the team and their fans. They have all made a huge difference in the lives of men who are dealing with prostate cancer. We are truly grateful for their support.”

“This has been an incredible partnership with Gilda’s Club and the Knighthawks organization is very grateful for the support from our awesome fans,” said Knighthawks Executive VP of Business Operations Nate Snyder. “We would also like to thank Bob Russell and his staff at Gilda’s Club for their efforts in supporting men fighting prostate cancer. This is a true testament to the profound impact that can be made when community organizations work together. The Knighthawks will continually be dedicated to being a strong and active member of the Rochester Community through programs such as this.”

The Mustaches for Cancer Movember contest featured two teams as selected by Knighthawks players and fundraising team captains Dan and Paul Dawson. Fans were encouraged to vote for the team with the best mustaches by donating money to their favorite team’s donation page. In the end, it was Paul’s Mo-Hawks that edged Dan’s Dangerous Dusters by $401. “I do it every year, but this year was extra special,” said Paul Dawson. “Obviously doing it for a specific cause in Rochester has been great.”

The Knighthawks raised additional funds through the sale of Movember T-shirts and the auctioning off of jerseys and a suite at the Gilda’s Club Heroes Ball on Nov. 19. The net proceeds from all of the fundraising events will benefit Gilda’s Prostate Cancer Support Group, which is the longest running prostate support group in Monroe County.

The Knighthawks also sold special “Teaming up for Todd” Movember T-shirts to show their support for Veterans Outreach Center Executive Director Todd Baxter. Baxter was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and is a longtime friend and supporter of the Knighthawks.

The Movember contest is one of several initiatives that the Knighthawks are participating in this season as part of their relationship with Gilda’s Club. The team is also supporting Gilda’s Crosscheck Cancer and Comics Against Cancer events.
