Rochester trades defenseman and team captain Scott Campbell to the Rush.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Knighthawks opened Trade Deadline Day by sending defenseman Scott Campbell to the Saskatchewan Rush. In the deal, Saskatchewan sends its 2022 second-round pick and a conditional 2021 second-round pick to the Knighthawks.

“Thank you to Scott for his leadership and dedication over the past nine seasons,” said Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres. “He is one of the most respected players in the game and a class act. Scott led us to the division semifinals (2011), division finals (2015), four NLL Finals and a league-record three straight championships.”

Campbell goes to the Rush after playing parts of 9 seasons with the Knighthawks (2011-19). The 37-year-old defenseman has served as team captain and an alternate captain during his tenure. In 2016, he was named the team’s Defensive MVP. From 2012 to 2014, he was a fixture on the Rochester defense during the Knighthawks’ run of 3 straight championships. He played in 140 games with the Knighthawks, which is tied for fourth place in team history with Hall of Famer John Grant Jr.

This weekend, the Knighthawks will play two Eastern Division games in two nights in a pair of Must-Win contests to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Rochester will be host to the Georgia Swarm on Friday at 7:30 pm at Connors & Ferris Field at the Blue Cross Arena. The Knighthawks then will travel north of the border to battle the Toronto Rock on Saturday at 7 pm at Scotiabank Arena.

The Buffalo Bandits lead the Eastern Division with a 10-3 record, followed by the Georgia Swarm (9-4), Toronto Rock (7-3), New England Black Wolves (7-4), and the Knighthawks (2-8).
