Dan Carey to serve as Team Coordinator at 2020 Lacrosse World Championship in Ireland next July.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA) announced on Friday that Rochester Knighthawks General Manager and Vice President of Lacrosse Operations, Dan Carey, has been named Team Coordinator of the Canadian Men’s U-19 Field Lacrosse Team. Carey will serve alongside head coach Matt Brown and oversee the Team Canada squad that will compete in the Men’s U19 Lacrosse World Championship in Ireland in July 2020.

“One of the highest achievements in sports is representing your country at the international level,” said Carey. “I’m honored to have been chosen to be a part of the Team Canada staff for the U19 World Championships.”

“Dan Carey has emerged as one of Canada’s most outstanding administrators for team management,” said Steve Govett, Canada’s national team general manager for men’s field lacrosse. “Dan is a true leader in every sense of the word and has invaluable experience with our national teams and in the NLL. He is a true professional.”

This will be Carey’s third appearance on the international stage representing Canada, having won a gold medal as a player at the 2007 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, and silver while serving as team coordinator of the Canadian men’s national team at last year’s Lacrosse World Championship.

Named the expansion Rochester Knighthawks first general manager on Dec. 13, 2018, Carey joined the team after spending the previous three years with the NLL’s Colorado Mammoth, most recently serving as general manager. Carey was instrumental in assembling a Mammoth roster that posted two straight winning seasons, culminating in back-to-back postseason appearances.

A native of Peterborough, ONT., Carey was the Mammoth’s first-round selection (seventh overall) in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft. He was named an NLL All-Star in each of his first three seasons in the league, and as a rookie, was instrumental in Colorado winning the Champion’s Cup in 2006. In 60 career regular-season games with Colorado, Carey scored 89 goals and assisted on 147 others before adding 25 points in 12 games with the Toronto Rock during the 2012 campaign to close out a six-year professional playing career. He posted his best season in the NLL in 2007 when he tallied career-highs in goals (32), assists (44), points (76) and points-per-game (4.75) before being named the recipient of the 2008 NLL’s Sportsmanship Award a year later.

His extensive lacrosse resume also includes back-to-back Ontario Lacrosse Championships and a three-time Mann Cup champion with his hometown Peterborough Lakers. He helped the Lakers to three titles over a four-year span (2004, 2006, 2007) and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2006 Mann Cup, Canada’s top prize in senior men’s box lacrosse.
