SASKATOON, SAS. — The Rochester Knighthawks dropped a 12-7 decision to the Saskatchewan Rush Saturday night in Saskatoon. The contest concluded a season-long three-game road swing for the Knighthawks.
The rematch of the 2018 National Lacrosse League Finals started with a frenetic pace as the Knighthawks scored two goals 42 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead in the opening two minutes of the contest. Joe Resetarits scored to tie the game, and Cody Jamieson then ripped a low shot to the far pipe to give Rochester its lone lead of the evening. The Rush countered by building leads of two and three goals, but the Knighthawks fought back to get within one before halftime. Kyle Jackson scored his second goal of the quarter to trim the deficit to 6-5. The power-play tally was one of four for the Knighthawks.
Jamieson and Resetarits, who assisted on the Jackson goal, each finished the game with 2 goals and 2 assists. Resetarits is now one goal away from his 100th as a Knighthawk.
Austin Shanks chipped in 3 assists, with two of those coming on back-to-back power-play tallies to open the fourth quarter. Following the goals by Jamieson and Cory Vitarelli, the Knighthawks were back in the contest at 11-7. In goal, Angus Goodleaf made 40 saves.
Rochester (1-3) returns to action against the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8 pm. The Knighthawks, in conjunction with Veterans Outreach Center (VOC) and Isaac Heating & Air Conditioning, will hold their fifth annual Military Appreciation Night as both teams will wear special military-themed jerseys.
