The Rochester forward is expected to make his season debut Saturday in Toronto against the Rock.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Knighthawks have activated forward Cody Jamieson from the physically unable to perform list. Jamieson is expected to make his 2017 debut on Saturday, Jan. 28 as the Knighthawks take on the Toronto Rock at 7 p.m. at the Air Canada Centre.
“I am approaching it like any other game,” he said. “I have played this game my whole life. I am always excited to get out there and run with the boys and play lacrosse.”
In December, Jamieson posted a letter to the fans updating them on his ACL rehabilitation. During the past five weeks, he has been increasing his strength, conditioning, and agility to prepare his body for the rigors of professional lacrosse. Now he is ready to kick off his seventh season.
“It’s going to feel good, but it’s not like I have been away for a long time,” said Jamieson. “I just missed three Knighthawks games, a few practices and a couple of exhibition games. Other than that, I have been around the team so I don’t feel like it’s a comeback. I feel like I am just going out there and playing.”
Jamieson’s return bolsters the left side of the offense, which currently includes rookies Kyle Jackson, Dan Lomas and Wayne Van Every. “Jammer” has been one of the most dominant offensive players in the game since being selected first overall in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft. In 2016, Jamieson led the Knighthawks in assists (64) and points (99).
While on the mend, Jamieson has stayed engaged with the team and has mentored some of the younger players. Jackson, who leads the team with 14 points, has been under the tutelage of Jamieson since training camp in November. This Saturday, he will finally get the opportunity to play alongside “Jammer.”
“I have definitely been looking forward to it all year,” said Jackson. “Obviously, when you start playing professional lacrosse, you dream of playing with guys of that caliber. With the amount of time he has been at practice and helping me out along the way, it will be nice to get out on the floor with him and play together.”
In six seasons, Jamieson has won three Champion’s Cups and two Championship Game MVP honors. In 2014, he became only the second Knighthawk to win league MVP honors. He currently ranks third all-time in team history in goals (199), assists (327) and points (526). Jamieson is also a three-time NLL All-Pro.
The former league MVP and three-time NLL All-Pro will wear an alternate captain’s “A” again this season, making the fifth straight season he has received the honor.
“It’s great (to have him back). We need his skill, smarts and leadership to help our young guys,” said Knighthawks assistant coach Paul Day, who oversees the offense. “He leads the way out the front door and sets the tone.”
