United States Senator Chuck Schumer says he and Buffalo-area Congressman Brian Higgins have reached agreement with the CEO of KeyBank to avoid job losses during the KeyBank – First Niagara merger.
Key Bank has bought First Niagara, and Schumer says the deal means all KeyBank and First Niagara branch employees will be offered comparable full-time jobs once the deal goes through. The two officials say KeyBank has committed that by 2021 it will have at least the same number of employees across Upstate New York that the separate banks have today, which is more than 6,100.
KeyBank also says it plans to add 500-to-600 new jobs in New York over the next three years.
