A Kendall man has been arrested in connection with the carbon monoxide deaths of a mother and her son last month.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year-old David Wiley has been charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide and two counts of reckless endangerment in the deaths of Joan Gilman and her 14-year-old son, Richard Gilman.

The sheriff’s office says Wiley was caretaker and a resident of the double house in Kendall where the Gilmans lived. The electric bills for both apartments were in his name. The power was shut off on April 16th, and Wiley set up a generator which ran for two days directly beneath the victims’ bedrooms.

Autopsies showed both the Gilmans had extremely high levels of carbon monoxide in their systems. Investigators said Wiley’s conduct with the generator created a grave risk of death to another person.

Wiley is being held on $2,500 bail.
