The federal government has awarded more than $180,000 to the Rochester Police Department for a counseling program that helps crime victims right at the scene.
Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the Department of Justice funding. It comes from a fund that promotes a range of crime prevention programs at the state and local level.
Rochester will use it to support the salaries of officers who are trained to work in its Crime Victims’ Support Program.
