A federal court judge in Utica has temporarily blocked New York State’s vaccine mandate on health care workers. The judge ruled in a suit brought by a group of health care workers upset because there was no religious exemption in the state’s order. The state has eight days to respond.

Hospital systems around Rochester have been preparing in case large numbers of unvaccinated health care workers resign on September 27th, when the mandate takes effect.

UR Medicine says it may delay some elective surgeries for a two-week period beginning September 27, potentially freeing up staff to deal with critical care patients.
