Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio will remain in jail, at least until her court hearing tomorrow (Thurs), after a bail hearing this morning.
Astacio and Attorney Ed Fiandach appeared in court before Ontario County Court Judge William Coker, who ruled Astacio wasn’t entitled to bail. He denied the defense motion for her release. Coker was brought from outside Monroe County to avoid any possible conflict of interest in handling Judge Astacio’s case. He affirmed Judge Stephen Aronson’s earlier ruling denying bail.
Judge Astacio also clarified for the court that Fiandach remains her counsel, despite confusion earlier this week over whether she had fired him or not.
Astacio faces a hearing Thursday afternoon on whether she violated the conditions of her conditional discharge on a DWI conviction. She was jailed because she left the country without notifying the court, and failed to make a court appearance because she was in Thailand.
