Judge Leticia Astacio has been sent back to jail, after she allegedly refused to put her ankle monitoring device back on when she was released from jail.
Prosecutor Zach Maurer says Judge Stephen Aronson ordered Astacio taken away in handcuffs because refusing to wear the alcohol monitoring bracelet violates her probation. She’ll be back in court on Monday, but in the meantime she’s being held without bail.
Papers filed in court before the hearing alleged Judge Astacio refused to put her ankle monitoring device back on after being released from jail Monday, saying she wouldn’t pay for it. It’s a required condition of her probation.
In court, Judge Aronson called it “mind boggling” that Astacio would refuse to wear the SCRAM device.
Astacio says she didn’t refuse to wear the device, only to pay for it. Maurer says if that’s a problem for her, she should have worn the device and then raised the issue in court.
