Judge AstacioJudge Leticia Astacio was found guilty of DWI in her own courtroom this afternoon.

Canandaigua City Court Judge Stephen Aronson…who was brought in to hear the case…told Judge Astacio she had let down her constituents. After finding her guilty, he sentenced her to pay a $500 fine and give up her driver’s license for six months. After her privileges are restored, Astacio will have to equip her car with an interlock device for one year.

Prosecutor Zach Maurer, also brought in from Ontario County, told reporters the judge couldn’t explain the circumstances.

Defense Attorney Ed Fiandach says he’s appealing the verdict.  Fiandach says he’s deeply disappointed with the verdict and says there was no proof Astacio was either mentally or physically impaired.

State Police testified at her trial that Judge Astacio was found in her disabled car by I-490 back in February and appeared to be intoxicated. She was charged with DWI after refusing a physical sobriety test.
