Outgoing University of Rochester President Joel Seligman says the university’s best days are yet to come…but the UR will have to spend some time focusing on healing before it resumes the way forward.
Seligman delivered his farewell address this afternoon at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, saying he’s looking forward to becoming a teacher and a scholar again. He didn’t directly address the furor over sexual harassment claims against Professor Florian Jaeger…but talked about the university finding unity again under a new leader.
Seligman is stepping down at the end of the month, submitting his resignation during the controversy over the UR’s handling of sexual abuse allegations against Professor Jaeger. It resulted in an EEOC lawsuit against the university.
Seligman says he’s loved having the chance to be a builder, starting 29 new facilities and research projects during his tenure as university president, including the new Golisano Children’s Hospital.
