
A robbery suspect held in the Monroe County jail allegedly attacked a Monroe County jail deputy Wednesday morning, sending him to the hospital.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Keniuel Sweet ambushed a 17-year-veteran deputy in one of the jail’s housing units. Several other deputies came to his aid. Sweet was moved to a special housing unit for violent offenders. There he attacked deputies a second time, causing injuries to half-a-dozen other deputies who subued him.
In all, seven deputies were injured and Sweet is now charged with seven counts of assault on top of the original charges.
