The Town of Irondequoit plans to redevelop the rear portion of the town hall campus, site of the former town maintenance garage that was destroyed by fire in 2016.
Supervisor Dave Seeley says the town will develop a Community Master Planning Process to guide the eventual project. There are roughly seven acres of land the town owns at the rear of the property that Irondequoit hopes to see developed into public parkland and recreational space.
Both virtual and in-person meeetings will be held for public input as the town works up a master plan and design for the land. They hope to have it finished by the end of 2021. EDR will oversee the planning process.
The nearly seven-acre section under consideration represents a rare opportunity to design new green space in a town that is almost entirely developed and will create the first new comprehensive public space for the Town of Irondequoit in over a generation.
The Town does not intend to bond money for this project and will use a $250,000 grant secured by then-Assemblyman Morelle, funding from the federal American Rescue Plan, and existing reserve funds.
