The Supervisor of Irondequoit says he and his staff are working out a program of buying new and used trucks to replace the ones destroyed Christmas Eve when half the town highway department garage burned down.

The town lost a third of its snowplow trucks and its sewer maintenance vehicles. Supervisor David Seeley says the town can’t afford to just buy a dozen new trucks all at once, and his goal is not to tap into Irondequoit’s reserve funds.

Meanwhile, Seeley says everyone wants to know when the remains of the burned building are coming down. He says that depends on the insurance company claims process. Once they get the site cleared, Seeley says they’ll put up a temporary garage building while they look at a permanent replacement.

Seeley says getting the sanitation department back up to strength is the top priority. The town has already bought a sewer flushing truck to replace the one that was lost. Snow plowing and other jobs are being handled in the meantime by trucks loaned by neighboring towns.
