Irondequoit Supervisor Dave Seeley says snow removal and other vital services are back up and running from a temporary public works center, and by Thursday they should have a full fleet of borrowed snowplows ready for anything winter has to throw at them.
Three days after the town garage was destroyed in the Christmas Eve fire, Seeley says a temporary ops center is up and running in the former McGraw Library branch on East Ridge Road. He says they sent out a salt run with the snow at 5:00 this morning and everything went smoothly.
Seeley says the DPW staff made a smooth transition, and he also wants to thank numerous towns, private companies and citizens who called to lend a hand.
Towns and villages from Greece to Perinton have loaned trucks to replace the nine plow trucks destroyed in the fire and many more jurisdictions from Monroe County and beyond offered anything that was needed. Private companies and Monroe County have agreed to loan trash trucks as needed.
Seeley says they’re hoping to avoid town insurance premiums being raised, but at least that’s only about one-tenth of one percent of the town budget.
