Irondequoit Supervisor Dave Seeley says his town is the only one in the Rochester area that doesn’t have a community and wellness center, whether public or privately-run like a YMCA. And Seeley is hoping the redevelopment of the former Medley Centre can change that.

The new owner of the former mall, now called Skyview on the Ridge, has offered the town 50,000 square feet of space for a community center. About 100 town residents turned out for a Thursday night meeting on how best to use it.

Some spoke up in favor of an indoor track and a pool, as well as space for programs that encourage creativity as well as fitness.

The town hopes to draw up its plans for the new center during the coming year.
