The Irondequoit Bay Outlet bridge is now open for vehicle traffic, closed for boat traffic.
County highway crews swung the seasonal bridge back into its winter position this morning, connecting Lake Road and Culver Road for cars until April 1st. Then it swings back out of the way and becomes a fishing access and boats can again pass in and out of the bay
Meanwhile, Irondequoit, Webster and other local officials say Irondequoit has received funding to study a permanent solution: a new full-time bridge across the outlet. That’s something that was rejected as too costly nearly 20 years ago when the current bridge was built.
Irondequoit Supervisor Dave Seeley says the Genesee Transportation Council is funding the study which will take about a year. It has the support of the state and county as well as Seabreeze business owners.
