The rising waters of Lake Ontario hit close to 248 feet, eight and one-half inches on Monday, and they’re pushing Irondequoit Bay closer and closer to the edge of Empire Boulevard as it loops around the bay’s southern end.
Parking lots of bayshore businesses have been seeing flooding for two weeks. Penfield Supervisor Tony LaFountain says it’s right up to the edge of the pavement in several spots along the Penfield-Irondequoit line. There are barrels and traffic cones up to show drivers where the water is coming close.
Both towns and the Monroe County Department of Transportation say they’re watching the situation closely. It hasn’t happened yet, but when the water starts coming over the pavement, they’ll have to close Empire Boulevard.
