A man already in custody for an incident involving the shooting of a three-year-old is now charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon charges for the shooting death of another man on Labor Day.
Police say 34-year-old Travis Lewis III entered a convenience store on Joseph Avenue on that day and got into an argument with 24-year-old Isaiah Fleming. He shot and killed Fleming.
Three weeks later, Lewis was involved in a gunfight on North Clinton Avenue. While exchanging gunfire with another party across the street, a toddler in a passing car was hit by a bullet. He was indicted on assault and weapon charges in that case as well.
While all this happened, Lewis was awaiting sentencing in a separate gun case after he shot and wounded a man on Lewis Street. He was released from prison in 2020 on a robbery conviction. He’s a triple predicate felon.
