Strong Memorial Hospital doctors say Trooper Craig Foglia is improving after being seriously injured last week during a traffic stop in Steuben County. They’ve upgraded his condition from critical to guarded.

State Police Spokesman Trooper Mark O’Donnell says Trooper Foglia’s breathing tube was removed a couple of days ago, and they’re optimistic he’ll continue to improve.

Foglia had just stopped a Jeep for speeding on I-86 and had gone back to his troop car to write up the ticket when a pickup truck hit his car from behind and smashed it into the Jeep.

Troopers said last week the Dodge Charger’s passenger compartment stayed intact while the engine compartment and trunk folded up, saving Foglia’s life.
