Rochester police over the weekend identified the officer injured Friday in a fight with a family violence suspect.
Police Chief La’Ron Singletary says officer Denny Wright, a 23-year veteran of the force, is recovering after surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was seriously injured in the face and head after being repeatedly stabbed by the 28-year-old suspect. The officer fired a shot that missed the suspect, and was eventually able to wrestle him down as bystanders came to his aid.
Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley says we’re lucky we’re not talking about the murder of another police officer in our city. Chief Singletary called it one of the most brutal attacks he’s seen in his law enforcement career.
