The International Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board says, now that navigation season is over, it will be letting more water out of Lake Ontario over the winter.

The board says it will boost outflows as much as possible down the Saint Lawrence until ice formation resumes on the river. The exact amount will depend on ice and water level conditions on the river. Water levels downstream from Massena are expected to rise, but will be monitored closely to avoid flooding there or in Montreal.

Outflows were set at record levels in June during the spring flooding, but inflows to the lake have also been high and Lake Ontario remains well above seasonal averages.
