The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is questioning a man after what appears to be a fight that left another man dead at Ontario Beach Park in Rochester.
The sheriff’s office says a patrol came across a seriously injured man at about 8:00 Wednesday night. As deputies were rendering medical aid, a witness pointed out a person leaving the scene as a possible suspect. Deputies detained him.
The 30-year-old victim was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Tweets posted by witnesses to the incident said the victim was punched during a fight, fell and hit his head on the pavement, but police have not verified that information. They do say it appeared to be an isolated incident between two people.
This evening just prior to 8:00 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s Office patrols at Ontario Beach came across a significantly injured male. While deputies were rendering medical aid, witnesses pointed out that a person of interest appeared to be leaving the scene. Deputies were able to catch up to him and detain him for questioning. The victim, a 30 year old male, was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
MCSO Major Felony Section is conducting the investigation and interviewing witnesses. Crime scene technicians are gathering evidence. MCSO would like to thank our partners at RPD for their assistance at the scene. We believe this to be an isolated incident, a dispute between these two parties. The County Park will be open in the morning.
MCSO is talking to the person of interest now. There is nothing further until after we confer with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
