Rochester’s AIM Photonics Institute has announced a patent and licensing agreement with IBM which brings that company into the photonics consortium.
They call it another major step in establishing the silicon photonics industry in upstate New York.
Finger Lakes Forward, the regional economic development consortium, says the collaboration will help develop standardized parts and products for silicon photonics assemblies such as fiber optic communications systems. IBM will apply its tech expertise both at the photonics centers in Rochester and in Albany.
