Since early Wednesday morning, dozens of law firms across New York have been filing hundreds of lawsuits against clergy, Boy Scout leaders, teachers and other officials as the one year window opened under New York’s Child Victims’ Act. The act allows a one year window for victims of child sexual abuse to file damage suits, suspending the usual statue of limitations which blocked most victims from seeking compenation.

In Rochester alone, suits have been filed since midnight against:

  • Cardinal Mooney High School, located in Rochester, New York
  • Church of the Annunciation, located in Rochester, New York
  • Good Shepherd Parish and School, located in Henrietta, New York
  • Holy Rosary Church and School, located in Rochester, New York
  • McQuaid Jesuit High School, located in Rochester, New York
  • St. Boniface Church and School, located in Rochester, New York
  • St. Bridget’s Church and School, located in Rochester, New York
  • St. Bridget’s Church, located in Rochester, New York
  • St. Christopher’s Church, located in North Chili, New York
  • St. Francis Xavier Church, located in Rochester, New York
  • St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, located in Hilton, New York
  • St. Mary of the Assumption, located in Scottsville, New York

More suits can be expected in the coming days and weeks. One law firm has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday afternoon to announce more.
