The idled Dairy Farmers of America yogurt plant in Batavia has been purchased by HP Hood LLC, the national dairy products brand.

Governor Andrew Cuomo came to the plant in the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park with Hood officials to announce the sale, and to say that Hood will invest more than $200 million into the plant over the next five years. The governor says Hood will also create 230 new jobs over those five years.

The governor says that’s injecting new life into the community and into the dairy industry, which is a critical business for Upstate New York.
