State Department of Labor officials say their systems have been overwhelmed by the numbers of people applying for unemployment benefits after being laid off due to the coronavirus emergency.

They’ve implemented a system based on the first letter of your last name. If it’s A-F, call on Monday; G-N, call on Tuesday; O-Z, call on Wednesday.

If you miss your day, call Thursday or Friday.

The state says filing a day or two later won’t delay your payments or the status of your claim.

Filing hours are also being extended to 7:30 p.m. on weeknights except Friday, and from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday.
