Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren has chosen three projects for redevelopment of the former Inner Loop, going with projects for more downtown housing and retail, plus an expansion of the Strong Museum that includes an indoor water park.
A fifth parcel will be kept as green space for the time being and will be reviewed after the other projects are finished.
The mayor’s office says Home Leasing will build 49 affordable housing units; 45 apartments and four townhouses. Morgan Development and Christa Construction will partner to build 117 studio apartments, plus retail and office space and underground parking on two of the new parcels. Christa will move its headquarters to the East End into the new building.
The two parcels closest to the Strong will go for an expansion of the museum including an on-site hotel with an indoor water park and a parking garage. The building will also have more than 200 housing units and a mix of urban retail space.
All of these will be multi-million dollar projects and will take several years to plan and build. The recommendations were sent to city council today, which has to approve before anything else happens.
